Kim Henderson Program Worker – Psychosocial Rehabilitation
When I first joined the Fellowship I didn’t actually have any experience working in mental health, so it was great that I found myself alongside incredibly supportive people who really took the time to guide me through those early weeks.
In our program we just have the most amazing team spirit which makes it a lot easier to do the kind of work that we do here. As well as making you look forward to going into work each day.
There’s also a lot of room to grow. When I first started I was doing my Diploma of Community Welfare and the Fellowship was really great about giving me time off throughout the year for study leave.
Now they’re helping me specialise in working with people who are dual diagnosis, that is people who have a mental illness and are also fighting drug or alcohol addiction.
But probably the best of my job is that feeling that I’m really achieving something. I just found community housing places for about eight of our clients. Just watching them set up their new homes and seeing the pride they take in them, I just think to myself “If I achieve nothing else this year, this has been worth it.”
