Certificate in General Education for Adults Certificate II
Certificate of General Education for Adults Certificate III
Introduction to Community and Event Volunteering

MI Fellowship Victoria doesn’t accept that a mental illness should lead to reduced education or long term unemployment.

That’s why we offer nationally recognised education opportunities that are designed to meet the needs of people with a mental illness who would like to engage in formal study and / or look for work in the future.

Students study alongside other people with a mental illness making issues around disclosure no longer problematic.  Classes are supportive and flexible; starting later than usual to counter the morning effects of some medications. Medical absences are understood and worked around.

With so many people developing a mental illness during their school years we know how important it is to offer return to study options. Education can lead to:

  1. increased motivation
  2. more confidence
  3. a feeling of connection to the community
  4. further education
  5. employment opportunities

The Certificates in General Education for Adults courses run two days a week over four terms and cover:

  1. personal confidence and motivation;
  2. communication skills;
  3. language, literacy and numeracy;
  4. confidence to seek volunteer work;
  5. preparing for enrolment in a TAFE course or further study;
  6. skills and confidence to seek paid employment.

Introduction to Community and Event Volunteering is run over eight days and covers:

  1. personal confidence and motivation;
  2. communication skills;
  3. problem solving skills;
  4. skills and confidence to work with people;
  5. preparing to apply for a volunteer position;
  6. preparing to work as a volunteer;
  7. preparing for further study.
