Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria day programs allow people to actively engage in their own recovery. Members can join the structured part of the day - through art, social, communications and recreational activities - or use them on a drop in basis. Many offer meals which participants will help make.
Each day program is a little different but a constant is that members are encouraged to become involved in the day to day running of the program as well as the planning.
Some days programs may have special groups for men, women, younger people or those with particular interests such as cooking, arts, gardening or sport. Call to find out more.

Bruce Woodcock Memorial Lecture
This annual lecture has become a highlight of Schizophrenia Awareness Week in Victoria. Each year around mid May MI Fellowship invites a speaker from around the globe to present at the glorious BMW Edge theatre in Melbourne’s Federation Square. Past speakers have included Dr Xavier Amador from the USA discussing his book ‘I’m Not Sick I Don’t Need Help’ which deals with the issue of insight and American anti-stigma campaigner Dr Patrick Corrigan author of ‘Don’t Call Me Nuts’.

Open Mind Day Fiesta
Each year during Mental Health Week Station Street Fiesta comes alive as 30,000 take in one of Melbourne’s best street fiestas. What makes Open Mind Day different is that among the carnival rides, fairy floss and giant snakes and ladders you’ll find a positive message about mental illness. There is information on mental illness available, many of the stalls raise money for us and many of the bands performing feature people with a mental illness.
In 2008 dozens of our staff and volunteers were joined by local traders in proudly wearing
t-shirts emblazoned with: 1 million Victorians have a mental illness. Do I?

Our counsellors work to provide structure and support in painful and difficult times. Our service can help clarify problems and help in their resolution.
Christmas and Easter Grief and Loss Services
Too often mental illness leads to grief, yet there are too few opportunities for families and friends to publicly acknowledge their loss. These services are conducted at St John of God at Southbank in partnership with the Bereavement Support Group each year. Subscribe to our free, private e-newsletter and you’ll be sent details of upcoming services.
